Med denne vidensyntese har FØJO ønsket at fokusere på hele den økologiske produktionsform med henblik på at få en samlet vurdering af den indsats indenfor planteforædling og såsædsproduktion, der er nødvendig for at sikre og fremme den økologiske produktion. To vigtige forudsætninger har været motiverende for igangsætning af dette arbejde. Dels ændringerne i EU-reglerne, hvor der er lukket for national udstedelse af dispensationer for kravet om anvendelse af økologisk såsæd efter 1. januar 2004. Dels det økologiske jordbrugs afvisning af GMO, som betyder at der er behov for at udvikle en fremtidig planteforædling rettet mod økologisk jordbrug, som ikke er baseret på GMO. The disease common bunt (Tilletia tritici syn. T.caries) has become a more frequent problem in Europe during the last 15 year. In organic farming, common bunt causes serious problems for seed producers, and many seed lots are discarded due to contamination with Tilletia tritici. Due to the biology of Tilletia tritici, with spores loosely attached to the surface of the grain, there is a risk that spores can be disseminated via grain handling equipment, including combine harvesters. Preventive efforts should focus on the role of grain handling equipment, and how the fungus life cycle can be broken. Seeds form the basis for agricultural production, but most organic growers know little about how their seedstocks have been produced. Within the organic movement the discussion on the compatibility of plant breeding techniques has been accelerated by the public discussion on genetic engineering. This decision-making is important to develop a framework for organic plant breeding and facilitate investment by breeding companies. This dossier explains all standard techniques used in modern plant breeding and why they have been developed. The consequences of not allowing certain techniques for organic plant breeding are outlined, along with suggestions for alternative techniques that could be adopted. |

The choice of growing media and the strategy of application of organic fertilizers is considered one of the largest challenges for production of organic tomato plantlets for transplanting. We have measured the growth and the ability of young tomato plantlets to extract plant nutrients from an organic growing media. Plants were grown in 0.45L pots. Plant nutrition were either entirely based on the mineral nutrients, available from the organic growing media or based on a combination of nutrients from the organic growing media and fertigation with water-soluble organic fertilizers during plantlet production. Kvælstof er et værdifuldt næringsstof for opnåelse af et højt frøudbytte, men også i relation til justering af væksten i udlægsmarken. Desværre har mange frøavlere begrænset adgang til kvælstof – dels på grund af en kvælstofnorm, som er fastsat under den økonomisk optimale værdi og dels på grund af begrænset adgang til husdyrgødning på økologiske planteavlsbedrifter. I Forskningsprogram frøavl arbejdes med udvikling af en behovsbestemt gødningsstrategi for at opnå en bedre udnyttelse af den til rådighed værende kvælstofmængde. Of 7 winter wheats grown at 3 sites in southern England in 2001, the highest yielding was the soft wheat Claire; the breadmaking varieties Hereward, Shamrock and Spark did well. Of the feed wheats, Aardvark outyielded Deben. Of various variety mixtures tried, Aardvark/Claire/Deben was highest yielding. When seed was saved from the 2000 harvest of Hereward/Malacca/Shamrock and grown in 2001, it outyielded the first generation mixture, suggesting that some adaptation had occurred, relative composition changing in response to the local conditions. Über den Gemüsebau im Hobbybereich existieren bisher nur wenige Daten; der Datenumfang dieser Umfrage erlaubt eine ausfühliche Untersuchung. Die Kundenresonanz ist äußerst positiv gewesen. Die Beteiligung an der Befragung hat den erwünschten Umfang mehr als übertroffen, da ein persönliches Interesse vorlag und nur wenige persönliche Fragen gestellt wruden. Dieser Umfang hat das Interesse und die Verbundenheit der Saagtugbezieher an Dreschflegel gesteigert. Die Fehlerbetrachtung ist in Bezug auf die Bewertung der Ergebnisse durchgeführt worden. Hieraus könne Erkenntnisse zur Gestlatung einer zukünftigen Umfrage gewonnen werden. Hydrokultur führt bei Bohnen zu höheren Erträgen, ist aber gleichzeitig qualitätsmindernd. Demeter-Saatgut und konventionelles Saatgut wurden jeweils biologisch-dynamisch und in Hydrokultur angebaut. Die vorliegenden Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass es auch im Pflanzenbau mehr oder weniger artgemäße Anbaubedingungen gibt. Der biodynamische Anbau in Erde erscheint gegenüber der Hydrokultur als weitaus artgemäßer. Nicht artgemäßer Pflanzenanbau von weißen Bohnen in Hydrokultur prägt sich im Samen ab und lässt sich mit der hier angewendeten empfindlichen Lumineszens-Anregungs-Spektroskopie physikalisch messen und statistisch signifikant von eher artgemäßem biologisch-dynamischen Anbau in Erde unterscheiden.
